STEP BY STEP

How to make a QR code for a link

A URL QR code is the most common type of QR code. It contains a web address, and every modern phone camera opens it in the browser. It works for websites, online stores, sign-up forms, videos, booking pages and more.

1

Paste your link

Copy the full address from your browser’s address bar, including https://. Open it once in a private window to make sure it loads without a login.

2

Design the code

Pick a template or set your own colors, dot shape and frame. Add a short call to action like “Scan to order” so people know what to expect.

3

Check and download

The scan check decodes your code and compares it with the link. Download PNG for digital use or SVG and PDF for print, so the code stays sharp at any size.

Track your campaigns

Add UTM parameters to the link, for example ?utm_source=flyer&utm_medium=print, and you will see scans from each flyer, poster or mailer as separate sources in Google Analytics. Keep the parameters short so the code stays easy to scan.

Where URL codes work

Restaurants link to online ordering, retailers to product pages, real estate agents to listing tours, event organizers to ticket pages and nonprofits to donation forms. Packaging, receipts, yard signs and trade show booths are all great spots.

Static or dynamic?

A free static code always opens the same address. If you want to change the destination after printing or see how many people scanned it, a dynamic QR code with statistics costs €4.99 one-time. See pricing.

FAQ

URL QR code FAQ

Do URL QR codes expire?

No. Static QR codes from QR-Lizard never expire and have no scan limits. The code works as long as the website itself is online.

Can I change the link after printing?

Not with a static code, because the link is stored in the pattern itself. Choose a dynamic QR code if you need to change the destination later.

Why should I include https://?

The full address tells the phone exactly which page to open and avoids security warnings. Most sites today use https.

Can I see how many people scanned my code?

With a static code, use UTM parameters and your website analytics. The dynamic QR code includes 12 months of scan statistics.

Do people need an app to scan it?

No. The built-in camera on iPhone and Android recognizes QR codes and shows the link to open.
